When I was 9 years old, an accident with hot water changed my life forever. The burns left scars that I carried not only on my body, but deep in my heart. For years, I lived in fear, fear of being seen, fear of rejection, fear that my scars told a story of weakness. Now, at 40, I am running my first Comrades Marathon. This is not just about distance; it is about courage. Every step is me uncovering what I once hid, showing the world that scars are not shame, they are survival. They are proof that pain can be endured and life can be reclaimed. I run for every burn survivor who has ever felt invisible, for every child who looks in the mirror and wonders if they will ever be enough. I run to remind us all that healing is not only physical it is emotional, spiritual, and profoundly human. And I run for the National Burns Association of South Africa, because no survivor should walk alone. Together, with your support, we can turn scars into strength, and survival into hope. Your generosity helps uncover courage, restore dignity, and ignite healing for those who need it most.”
Every scar tells a story. Every donation writes the next chapter
