Fire at Taiwan informal settlement in Khayelitsha

A fire swept through the Taiwan informal settlement in Khayelitsha on Wednesday, prompting swift action from the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management teams, who have set up a joint operations centre to assist affected residents.

City spokesperson Charlotte Powell stated that the number of damaged structures is still unknown, but assessments are underway.

In the meantime, the city has called on its humanitarian aid partners to provide immediate relief to those affected.
