Coming out of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence urges us to reflect on the following:
Using fire, hot liquids or petrol bombs as weapons has consequences and effects that can NEVER be taken back.
An act of rage and loss of self-control in a dispute or argument and the use of fire in a malicious way is inhuman. We have seen many cases of spousal jealousy resulting in this tragic outcome; even parents who have thought they would “teach a child a lesson”. Very often the results far outweigh the intention to hurt.
Serious burns are lifelong injuries that constantly require medical interventions and leave emotional and psychological scarring forever.
DO NOT BURN SOMEONE, whether in a rage, as a punishment, in a prank or through stupidity or a lack of understanding of the effects of burns.
Use your choices to have understanding, compassion and control of yourself to never behave monstrously by inflicting burns on others.
Reach out for assistance before it is too late if you are struggling with gender-based violence.
